Permanent MakeUp Removal

Permanent MakeUp Removal using laser is the gradual fading of the tattoo over multiple treatments. In Dundrum Cosmetic Clinic, we use the Nd:Yag, KTP and Ruby laser for optimum results. Our permanent makeUp removal specialist has 10 years experience in treating semi permanent make-up problems.

How does the Permanent Make-Up removal work?

When placed, permanent MakeUp will stay in place for up to 10 years. Ink particles are too large for the body’s immune system to remove naturally. By passing the energy of a very short pulse of high power laser light through the skin, the ink is broken into smaller particles which the body is then able to remove over a period of time.

How many treatments are required to remove semi permanent ink?

The ink fades in colour after each treatment. There are many factors involved, but typically, 3 or 4 sessions are required before the area can be re-done.

What are the costs likely to be?

Consultations for Permanent Makeup removal are €30. Due to the complexity and risk involved with the procedure, the cost of each session is €100.

Do all inks respond to treatment?

No. In the majority of cases we are able to remove the tattoo to the satisfaction of the client. No one laser can remove all types of tattoo ink, this is why we use up to three laser wavelengths on the site to ensure best results.
Consultations are 30 minutes. Typical treatment sessions last between 15 and 40 minutes depending on the complexity of the ink.

The lasers do cause discomfort during the treatment. In Dundrum Cosmetic Clinic, we have the benefit of the Coolblast Cooling System to aid client comfort. Most patients tolerate the discomfort of treatment very well, but a local anaesthetic is available if required.

Are there any after-effects following the Permanent Makeup Removal treatment?

There are many potential tissue responses that may occur including redness and swelling which appears similar to sunburn. This should settle within a few days. Some patients may blister, which is quite normal and does not indicate potential scarring. The area should not be exposed to strong sunlight between sessions without the use of sunblock (SPF 50).

Does the permanent makeup removal treatment leave scars?

When directions are followed, there is normally no lasting damage to the skin. Occasionally, mild changes in skin texture may occur. Because of the proximity to the eye, we are unable to treat the area covered by eyeliner.

Will the skin be normal when the Permanent Make-Up Removal treatment is finished?

Nd:yag, ruby and KTP laser light is absorbed by skin pigment as well as the ink. Patients may notice some lightening of the skin. We advise clients to follow the aftercare protocols for the permanent makeup removal treatment.
