We were the first clinic in Ireland to offer PicoSure Laser tattoo removal. Because we were the first, we have the most experience and know-how with this technology.

Whether you want a tattoo partially or fully removed, we know exactly what it takes to get the results you desire.

But don't take our word for it. Just read the hundreds of 5-star reviews from our happy customers. Will you be next?

What is PicoSure laser tattoo removal?

The PicoSure laser is one of the quickest and most effective methods of tattoo removal available.

Whereas older forms of tattoo removal relied on heat-based treatments, PicoSure uses ultra-short pulses of energy, measured in picoseconds (trillionths of a second), to break tattoo ink particles down into smaller pieces. These are then broken down naturally by the body's immune system.

It means the treatment is more comfortable and you'll need fewer sessions to get the results you want.

5 things to know about tattoo removal at Dundrum Clinic

  1. Our internationally-trained tattoo removal specialist has been treating tattoos since 2007.
  2. We're home to Ireland's only standalone C2 Ruby laser (with cooling attachment) to treat light blue and green tattoos.
  3. A tattoo the size of a €2 coin costs about €67 per session (when purchased as part of a package).
  4. Each session takes around 15-20 minutes, although this depends on the size and colour of the tattoo.
  5. With the Q-switched laser you require between eight and 14 sessions. PicoSure tattoo removal takes around half that number.

Frequently asked questions

A tattoo is a permanent placement of ink particles into your skin. Your body's immune system can't remove these particles itself because they are too big.

Instead, laser light of a specific wavelength can break up the tattoo ink into smaller particles. Your immune system can then remove them from your body much more easily.

Your initial consultation lasts 20 minutes and a typical treatment will take around 15 to 20 minutes. This depends on the tattoo size.

In most cases we can remove the tattoo to the patient's satisfaction. We use up to four lasers to ensure the best results, as no one laser can treat all colours of tattoo.

White, gold or fluorescent-coloured tattoos cannot be treated. Yellow, pink and orange tattoos can sometimes be faded only.

Amateur tattoos may be removed in one or two sessions.

With Q-Switch removal, most regular tattoos require 8-14 sessions.

PicoSure removal usually takes roughly 4-7 sessions.

Treatments are typically given at six to eight-week intervals.

Although tattoo removal is generally well-tolerated, it can cause discomfort for some people. Therefore we put a number of measures in place to help you feel as comfortable as possible.

Clinical studies have found that cooling your skin with cold air can reduce sensitivity to laser treatments. That's why we use the CoolBlast cooling system to reduce the temperature of your skin and reduce discomfort.

The ribs, ankles and shoulder blades are more sensitive than other parts of the body. Therefore, if you have a tattoo in one of these areas, you may feel a bit more discomfort than normal.

In these cases, or if you simply you have a low pain threshold, we can also provide a numbing cream for the target area.

You may experience some swelling and redness after the treatment, similar to sunburn. This should settle within a few days. Occasionally blisters may also appear. This is quite normal and will also resolve itself within a few days.

You should keep the treated area out of strong sunlight between sessions.

You may notice some depigmentation (lightening) of the treated skin. Our advice is to always follow the aftercare protocols you are given carefully.

When directions are followed, there’s usually no lasting skin damage. You may experience a mild change in your skin texture. The possibility of scarring when a skilled, experienced technician is using clinically approved equipment is remote. It’s important to follow the aftercare guidelines closely.

We’ve been treating tattoos for more than a decade and have gained considerable experience during this time. There’s no evidence of laser treatment leading to skin issues.

We advise all prospective clients to do thorough research and discourage the use of so-called 'cheap tattoo removal' advertised on sites such as Groupon and LivingSocial.

Please note, we don’t accept clients who have had below-standard tattoo removal attempted at clinics we don’t approve. This is because partly treated tattoos are difficult to access. As a result, patients who have had tattoo treatment previously must attend our specialist clinic, where consultations are a non-refundable €30. Based on this full consultation, a decision will be taken as to whether we can assist with a partly treated tattoo.

Prices vary according to the size, colour and complexity of the tattoo to be removed, as well as by the technology you choose.

As a guide, a tattoo the size of a two euro coin costs about €40 a session when purchased as part of a discounted package.
