Laser therapy refers to any treatment involving the use of a laser. It involves the use of focused light tuned to specific wavelengths. When this is done, practitioners can treat highly-targeted areas of the body. It avoids a lot of the risks, pain and downtime of traditional surgery.

In cosmetic circles, laser therapy can be used to treat skin imperfections, remove warts or moles, improve the appearance of skin blemishes and remove tattoos.

Laser therapy for the intimate area

Laser therapy can also be used to treat a variety of conditions in a woman's intimate area, including vaginal dryness, urinary incontinence and vaginal laxity.

Unlike some treatments, CO2 laser therapy is a non-invasive procedure that is quick and virtually pain-free.

Frequently asked questions

CO2 laser therapy for the intimate area works in much the same way as CO2 laser skin resurfacing.

When the CO2 laser is targeted at the target area, it stimulates the natural production of collagen in your body.

Collagen is a protein that's vital for maintaining the firmness and elasticity of your skin. Collagen production slows down as we age, which is why our skin starts to sag and wrinkles start to appear as we get older.

Increased collagen production can help to maintain skin firmness, strengthen the vaginal walls, enhance the sensitivity of the vaginal receptors, restore lubrication and increase flexibility.

CO2 laser therapy is most suitable for women in the post-menopause stage of their life, and also those who have recently given birth. However, it may also be suitable for women who simply want to improve their vaginal comfort and sexual function.

CO2 laser therapy can take as little as 15 minutes to perform.

Some patients will see results immediately after their first treatment. However, it may take multiple treatments spaced across a few months to see the full benefits of the treatment.

There are very few side effects associated with CO2 laser therapy. You may see some redness or swelling in the target area after your session, but this tends to subside quickly.

During your initial consultation we'll assess you to let you know if you need to take any precautions before or after the treatment. However, it is recommended in all cases that you avoid sex for at least 48 hours after the procedure.
