Intense Pulsed Light-IPL

Intense Pulsed Light-IPL

Intense pulsed light IPL

Intense Pulsed Light-IPL is a non-invasive skin treatment that can be utilised to treat a number of conditions such as acne, dull skin, red veins and in general to improve skin appearance and texture.

IPL treatment is also used for skin rejuvenation, skin resurfacing, photo facial or photo-rejuvenation depending on the issue you wish to address with your skin treatment.

How does  IPL  skin rejuvenation treatment work?

A handheld  device is passed across the skin, delivering a spectral range of light that targets the problem area. The  IPL high intensity pulses of visible light  to penetrate to the deeper layers of the skin and break down pigmentation.

How long does an IPL skin rejuvenation treatment take?

The treatment itself takes approximately 20-30minutes.

What conditions does IPL treat?

IPL can help you improve the following conditions:

Red flushed skin
Broken capillaries
Pigmented lesions
Large  pores
Discolouration caused by sun damage
Mild Acne
Uneven Skin Tone.

What skin treatments can IPL treat?

IPL Skin rejuvenation
IPL Light Skin resurfacing
Photo facial

How many sessions do I need?

This will depend on what condition needs to be treated but generally 3 to 6 sessions are needed, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Does it hurt?

Most people find it relatively comfortable but some people do experience mild discomfort, often people will describe the sensation as similar to a rubber band snapping on the skin with a sensation of heat.

Is there any downtime after each treatment session?

Some patients will have mild redness for up to 12 hours but usually this will subside in less time. If treating pigmentation, you will notice the pigment getting darker for 5-10 days.

How soon will I see the results?

Some patients will see a result after just one treatment but we advise our clients that it will usually take 2-3 sessions before they will see a noticeable difference in the skins tone and texture.

How long do the results last?

After doing a course of treatments, and once you are happy with how your skin looks, we recommend you do “top up” sessions to keep the skin looking fresh. This may be necessary once or twice a year, however it will depend on your skin and how it responds to the treatment.

Do I need to take special precautions before and after the treatment?

-Before treatment:

No sun exposure or sun bathing for a minimum of 4 weeks before IPL treatment, during this time daily application of SPF 30 is advisable.

No false tanning products on the area for a minimum of 2 weeks before IPL treatment.

Advise the therapist if you are under medication or if there are any changes in your medical circumstances before IPL treatment.

-After treatment:

No sun exposure or sun bathing for a minimum of 2 weeks post IPL treatment, apply SPF50 to the treated area daily. Avoid additional heat to the area, such as steam rooms, saunas, or exercising for 24 hours post IPL skin rejuvenetation treatment.

Avoid applying any creams, soaps or lotions to the treated areas for 48 hours post IPL treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects with IPL skin rejuvenation are minimal. Some clients may experience varying degrees of localised swelling which may last 1-4 days after treatment. Your therapist will discuss any possible side effects with you during your consultation.

Is this treatment permanent?

As the skin is subject to continuous changes as a result of sun exposure and the natural ageing process, we therefor recommend that our clients do regular “top up” treatments to prolong results.

What areas of the body are suitable for treatment with IPL?

IPL skin rejuvenation treatment is suitable for the face, neck, chest, arms, and legs.

What can I expect during Intense Pulsed Light-IPL treatment?

When you come for your IPL treatment we will cleanse your skin of any excess oil. You will wear special eye shields on your eyes to protect them from the light energy, then you will feel the smooth surface of the applicator on the skin, followed by a pinching sensation and a series of light flashes.

What are the costs likely to be?

One full-face session costs €150, we also offer a 3 session package that costs €400.
